Bordeaux draws a great many of the couples we work with, but France is a large country, and its wedding scenery doesn't stop at the vineyards. If a different backdrop is calling you, here's what three of the country's most requested destinations actually offer.
France is bigger than one wine region
As a photographer covering weddings across the whole of France, we're regularly asked whether we travel beyond Bordeaux. The honest answer is: happily, and often. Each of these three regions brings a genuinely different character to a wedding day, and choosing between them says as much about the atmosphere you want as it does about geography.
Provence: lavender, light and mas provençaux
Provence offers something no other French region quite matches: golden stone farmhouses (mas provençaux), fields of lavender in bloom from June to August, and a soft, warm light that photographs beautifully from morning until well into the evening. It suits couples picturing a relaxed, sun-drenched celebration, often over a full weekend rather than a single day, in keeping with the region's unhurried pace of life.
The French Riviera: glamour by the Mediterranean
From Saint-Tropez to Cap Ferrat, the Riviera brings a different energy entirely: yachts in the bay, belle-époque villas, and a level of glamour that has attracted couples and celebrities alike for over a century. It's the choice for a wedding built around the Mediterranean itself, with turquoise water as a backdrop rather than vineyards or lavender fields.
"Provence asks you to slow down. The Riviera asks you to dress up. Paris asks you to fall in love with a city as much as with each other."
Paris: a wedding in the world's most romantic city
For couples drawn to an intimate elopement or a smaller-scale ceremony, Paris remains unmatched: the Eiffel Tower at golden hour, the Seine's stone bridges, hidden courtyards in the Marais. Many international couples choose Paris specifically for a two- or three-person elopement, followed by a larger celebration back home, a format that has grown significantly in recent years.
Choosing what's right for you
None of these destinations is objectively better than Bordeaux, Provence, the Riviera or Paris each simply tell a different story. We photograph weddings across all of France and internationally, wherever your celebration takes place, bringing the same documentary, editorial approach to every location.
